Eighth Grade Heads to Washington, D.C.

From Wednesday, April 24 - Friday, April 26, Gilmour’s eighth-grade class headed to Washington, D.C. where they learned about the history of the country, as well as the political process.

 

During the trip, students saw iconic landmarks such as the White House and the Capitol Building as well as the MLK, FDR, Jefferson, Lincoln, Korean, Vietnam, WWII, Iwo Jima and Air Force Memorials. They explored the African American History Museum, Spy Museum and Holocaust Museum; and visited Medieval Times, Arlington Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where they got to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony and Kennedy gravesites.

 

On the way back to Gates Mills, the group stopped in Shanksville, Penn. to see the landing spot of Flight 93 and the role the heroes on that plane played on September 11.  

 

The trip to Washington, D.C. was an educational and rewarding experience for students, as they saw in person the history and workings of the United States government while also exploring some of the country's most iconic landmarks and institutions.
