  • Women’s Club Volunteers Needed for College 101

    Wednesday, March 13, 12:15-3:30 p.m.

    The Women’s Club is in need of volunteers for College 101 on March 13 when, together with the College Counseling Department,  the Women’s Club will be hosting College 101 for the senior class. College 101 will provide seniors the opportunity to learn valuable information from professionals on topics such as legal rights and responsibilities of college students, campus safety, money management suggestions and life on a college campus.  We are in need of several parent volunteers to supervise the groups of students as they rotate to the various speakers.   • Attention Senior Parents! College 101 – Parent Session and Lunch

    Wednesday, March 13, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., Athletic Center

    The Gilmour Academy Women’s Club would like to invite all senior parents to a College 101 session, which will include a panel discussion and lunch.  

    That afternoon,  the senior class will be participating in a workshop called College 101 to help prepare them for college life. The program, sponsored by the Gilmour Women’s Club, will provide seniors the opportunity to learn valuable information from professionals on topics such as legal rights and responsibilities of college students, campus safety, money management suggestions and life on a college campus.

    During the Parent Session from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., the parents will hear brief presentations from the same speakers the students will hear from in the afternoon.  After the presentations, we will have a panel discussion, which will include the speakers and parents of recent alumni. Senior parents will have an opportunity to ask questions they may have about their student leaving for college.

  • Freshman and Sophomore Academic Planning Event

    We invite all current ninth- and 10th-grade students and their parents to join Dr. James Gutowski and the Counseling Department for our Academic Planning Event the morning of Monday, February 25 in the Athletic Center. Ninth-grade parents and students are invited to join us from 8-8:45 a.m. and 10th-grade parents and students from 8:45-9:30 a.m.

    During this morning presentation, students and their parents will hear from Director of Academic Services Dr. James Gutowski about course offerings and course requirements. Families will then have the opportunity to visit information stations to learn more about different offerings in greater detail - from college planning and next year's schedule to the Vector program, summer opportunities, service and more.
     
    This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your student to plan ahead for the next few years while creating an open dialogue about interesting class offerings, academic programs and other opportunities that pique your child’s interest.

  • Nutrition & Diet for Athletes Seminar for Students in Grades 7-12

    Monday, March 4, 3-4 p.m., Athletic Center Meeting Rooms

    Join us for this informational presentation by Amy Gannon ’07, M.Ed., RD, LD, a registered dietician at the Cleveland Clinic. She will present a seminar on proper nutrition and diet for teenage athletes. She’ll discuss the nutritional needs and challenges facing developing athletes. She’ll also provide sample options for pre-meet or pre-game meals, as well as the best nutrition choices for after-game recovery.

    A healthy snack will be provided by AVI.

    Gannon is the Program Manager and Chief Coach of eCoaching at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute, which provides email-based health coaching on a variety of health issues. While at Gilmour, she earned All-State athletic and academic honors in cross country and track & field.

  • Deadline to Apply for Junior Counselor Position at Camp Gilmour is Feburary 20

    Applications for current Gilmour students (14 years old and over) who would like to be considered for a junior counselor position at Camp Gilmour are due Wednesday, February 20 by midnight. Read all the information about the job requirements and how to apply.

  • Vaping Presentation: What You Should Know About this Growing Trend

    Wednesday, February 27, 7 p.m., Orange High School Auditorium

    Together with Orange schools and the Orange PTA, Gilmour is sponsoring an important presentation on the dangers of vaping. The evening will include a guest panel that includes a pediatrician, a pulmonologist, a representative from New Directions treatment center, a school administrator and a high school student.
