Gilmour Faculty and Staff Select First Winner of Holy Cross Heart and Mind Award

According to Blessed Basil Moreau, the foundation of a Holy Cross school is one in which education and instruction are always placed side by side - "The mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart."
As Holy Cross men and women, it is our responsibility to inspire others to be change agents within our society. During Catholic Schools Week, faculty and staff members were asked to nominate colleagues for the inaugural Holy Cross Heart and Mind Award. The award celebrates a faculty or staff member who has modeled our Holy Cross charism and made outstanding contributions of their time, effort and talent to inspire the members of our Gilmour community. Nominees must model this year's theme of “The Cross, Our Only Hope” through humble service to others and during daily interactions with students, parents, colleagues and/or other members of our community. They must demonstrate a willingness to truly listen to the experiences of others and accompany them in their most challenging times. They must lovingly make sacrifices for others in their daily life. Finally, they must demonstrate a commitment to inspiring the hearts and minds of Gilmour Academy students and community members.

Congratulations to the 11 nominees – Dan Adiletta (Coordinator of Academic Technology, computer science instructor), Fr. John Blazek, C.S.C. ’58 (campus minister), Laurie Gajda (LS instructor, Mathematics K-6 Academic Leader), Br. Ken Kane, C.S.C. (Academy archivist, instructional support), David Kilkenney (Chair of Fine and Performing Arts Department, music instructor), Martha Ligas (Service and Pastoral Life Coordinator, religion instructor, Laura Novotney (Montessori PreK and K Program Directress), David Pfundstein (Dean of Student Life and Leadership), Becky Reidy (Associate Director of College and Residence Life Counseling), Rhonda Rickelman (Director of Auxiliary Programming), Kara Santana (University Hospitals Sports Medicine Institute Athletic Trainer).

Faculty members then voted on the 11 nominees and the winner of the inaugural Holy Cross Heart and Mind Award is...Br. Ken Kane, C.S.C.! Congratulations and thank you for bringing our Holy Cross mission to life each day on campus.
