Incorporating Wellness into the Residential Life Experience
With new programs on exercise, mindfulness and nutrition, our residential life students are reaping the benefits of Gilmour's focus on educating the whole child.
Our 68 students living in the Murphy Residence Hall enjoy a range of benefits that contribute to their overall development. As we work to educate both the minds and the hearts of students, our resident students enjoy a host of opportunities that contribute to their socio-emotional, physical, spiritual and academic well-being. Part of this is due to their proximity to campus resources such as our athletic facilities, our Chapel, dorm proctors and our counseling services. Additionally, the school offers unique programming designed specifically for our resident students so that they might optimize their non-class time.
Recently, Wellness Coordinator Katie Gallagher facilitated a program that combined physical, socio-emotional and nutritional health as part of the weekly Dorm Prayer meeting. The evening began with a gentle flow yoga class in the Great Room and concluded with a cooking class in which students learned how to prepare healthy snack and meal options. "The goal," according to Gallagher, "is to encourage positive behavior through fun, engaging, educational content."
Fun was had by all and the opportunity to experience something new was met with great enthusiasm!
