MLK Leadership Award Presentation: Thinking About Our Blueprints

Last week, Gilmour Academy welcomed Sherri Beedles, a Gilmour alumni parent and member of our Board of Trustees, for a special presentation in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and our ongoing reflection on leadership, faith and justice.

During her presentation, Sherri invited students to think about their own blueprints, the values, choices, and character traits that shape who they are becoming. She connected this idea to Martin Luther King Jr., noting that just six months before his death, Dr. King spoke to middle and high school students about the importance of building one’s life on a strong moral foundation.

Students were encouraged to reflect on what guides their decisions, how they treat others, and how their everyday actions matter. In doing so, they were challenged to grow in both their competency to see injustice and their courage to act, core to Gilmour Academy’s mission to help create a more humane and just society.

Sherri Beedles brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across healthcare, higher education, government and corporate sectors. Currently an HR leader at Avery Dennison, she is deeply committed to developing people, strengthening organizational culture and leading change with integrity, bringing both professional insight and personal commitment to her work with our Gilmour community.

Immediately following the presentation, Sherri was honored as the recipient of the Gilmour Academy MLK Leadership Award, recognizing her leadership, integrity and commitment to human dignity. Her message aligned closely with this year’s charism Hope — reminding students that hope is not passive. It is lived out through choices, responsibility, and action rooted in faith and purpose.
