Celebrating The World Through Language

The purpose of Foreign Language Week is to highlight the benefit and importance of learning a foreign language. This year, our theme was “Celebrate the World Through Language.” All language students in Latin, French and Spanish classes, Grades 6-12, researched a celebration, festival or holiday in a country of their language of study. These celebrations are a key part of learning about other cultures as they highlight the values and practices of people all around the world. Gilmour students celebrated all week with:

  • Foreign Language Café: featuring churros, cannoli, scones and croissants
  • Animated short foreign films
  • "Guess the Language" competition
  • salsa dancing lessons with an instructor from Viva Dance Studio
  • a Scavenger Hunt with clues about faculty and staff and their travel and language experiences
