Caritas Finalists Present Their Causes

Throughout the school year, Gilmour Academy’s seventh-grade students took part in the Caritas Project, an interdisciplinary initiative inviting them to research and present on a charity that reflects both the charisms of the Gilmour community and the theological virtue of Caritas. Inspired by Pope Benedict XVI’s vision of love that calls for “courageous and generous engagement in the field of justice and peace,” students developed their projects across English, history and theology classes.

After presenting to their peers in class, two finalists emerged: Boutros Gemyal ’31 and Mari Cutler ’31. Boutros presented on the Lebanese Red Cross, highlighting its critical role in providing emergency medical services and humanitarian aid. Mari focused on the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund, emphasizing its mission to support research and find a cure for Niemann-Pick disease.

While all seventh-grade students demonstrated thoughtful research and meaningful reflection, Boutros and Mari stood out for the depth of their work, the quality of their presentations and their passion for their causes. Both students were given the opportunity to present to the entire Gilmour community at Convocation this week, and the winner will be determined by a vote from students and faculty. The chosen charity will receive a donation from the Gilmour community in support of their cause.

Their work exemplifies the spirit of Caritas and the commitment to faith, service and justice that defines a Gilmour education.
