Girls Basketball

The varsity girls basketball team improved to 7-6 overall with a recent exciting, down-to-the-wire win against St. Vincent-St. Mary. The game was close the entire way with the score knotted at 53 in the final seconds when Annika Corcoran '19 drove into the top of the key and then dished off to Maddie Puletti '20 (pictured) in the corner, who drained the game-winning three under defensive pressure with just six seconds remaining. In the 56-53 victory, Corcoran led the Lancer offense with 23 points and Puletti added 22 points as both players made five 3-pointers apiece. Only a few days earlier, the Lancers took home second place in the Gator Classic after defeating Cleveland Heights in a close 57-54 game and then falling to tournament hosts Laurel, 67-63.

The junior varsity girls basketball team was on a six-game winning streak before having it snapped by St. Vincent-St. Mary Wednesday night. Bella Mazzurco '21 led the team with nine points as the team's overall record is now 10-3.

The freshman girls basketball team had two recent wins against Beaumont and Cleveland Heights. The Lancers are playing a true team game and move the ball well on offense, while executing extreme pressure on defense. Aggie Breen '22 stepped up recently and provided the Lancers with good ball handling, while Grace Gainar '22 and Megan Mlinaric '22 remained poised in the paint, pulling down great rebounds and making nice outlet passes to start the offense.

Weekend Plans: The Lancers are at home this Saturday for a North Coast League (NCL) triple header against St. Joseph Academy. The freshman game begins at 11:45 a.m., followed by the junior varsity game at 1 p.m. and the varsity game at 2:30 p.m.
