Figure Skating Seminar Brings Skaters and Coaches from Around the Country to Campus

The Grassroots to Champions Seminar Weekend was a three-day event here on campus. Led by Olympic and world coaches, Audrey Weisiger, Jeremy Allen and Charyl Brusch (2022 Olympian Alyssa Liu's spin coach), skaters from across the country attended for a weekend of intense on and off ice training.

Skaters worked on edge work, skating skills, jumps and spins in their quest to be the "Total Package" skater.

For the parents, there was a Zoom chat with 2022 Olympian Jason Brown's mother, Marla! She described what it was like to be the mother of an Olympic competitor and national champion.  She also provided valuable advice for parents regarding how to help their skater in their training and some dos and don’ts from her experience.

More than 150 skaters from Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Ohio participated, including 25 members of the Gilmour Figure Skating Club (six of whom are Gilmour students). Another group participated in a mini camp offered Friday evening for beginner level skaters.

It was a fun, exciting and educational weekend for all attending and a great chance for skaters from all over the country to see our campus.
