BSA Welcomed Mojuba Dance Collective for Two Workshops
Mojuba is an African contemporary dance company and community platform that seeks to celebrate and honor the cultural and spiritual dance traditions of the African Diaspora to restore community wellness, share and validate the Black narrative experience, and re-establish cultural connection.
The Lower School enjoyed a workshop with MDC on February 25 as part of their DEI Community Block, in conjunction with the sixth graders’ presentations of prominent figures in black history. The sixth graders used “Because of Them We Can” boxes to highlight, celebrate and educate.
On February 28, the MDC returned to campus for a workshop for our Upper School community. This interactive 90-minute after-school workshop was designed to spread awareness of the dance traditions of the African Diaspora.
Exposure to these dance traditions increases our students' level of cultural understanding. The competence to see entails diving deeper into understanding and authentically experiencing the cultural differences of those in the Gilmour community. This platform allowed for a fun and engaging learning opportunity.
