Social Studies 7 looks at key events and concepts of America’s story beginning with the Antebellum and Civil War era and concluding with World War I and America’s emergence as a world power. Students practice critical analysis and hone their abilities to read for understanding using texts, trade books, and primary source documents. Tasks and assessments will ask students to summarize, categorize, and compare information through both written and oral expression.
This class is a survey of the United States from the Great Depression to the present. The course traces the development of the American character, social and economic reforms, and the emergence of the United States as a world power. Students write historical narratives, conduct debates, organize oral and visual exhibitions, and analyze current events. Tasks, subtasks and other assessments focus on reading comprehension, written and oral expression, and a developing conception of themes. This course is partially integrated with English 8 and Religion 8.
