“HAPPY GILMOUR” DR. CURTIS SMITH MEMORIAL
VIRTUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT 2020
September 18 - october 4, 2020
All proceeds directly benefit the boys and girls hockey program.

Compete as an individual, a foursome, or by picking a golfer of your choice to play for you. Golfers do not have to play together or even on the same course. This is a virtual golf tournament but with real golf played on almost any par 70 course, anywhere in the world, using the free 18Birdies app. Tournament players will have the chance to interact and play golf with other 18Birdies users, post and share content to the Tournament Feed – and win sweet prizes. Scores will be calculated to compete for the individual and team championships.

Alumni, make sure you list your grad year after your name because we will announce an alumni class foursome champion. We take the lowest three golfers from a class and the highest-scoring golfer from the class to determine the alumni class score.

The first Happy Gilmour outing was in 2002. We were looking for a way to raise some much-needed funds for the hockey program for "outside of the budget" hockey needs. Dave Wagner, a GA hockey parent, suggested a golf outing.

Dr. Curtis Smith was the father of Brandon '05 and Jarred Smith '06 and served as our unofficial team doctor while his boys were in the program. Curtis and his wife, Cindy, opened their home as a gathering place for the prep team and many of our dormers stayed with them in the summer so they could train at Gilmour.

When Curtis died of a heart attack in 2008 while playing golf, we changed the name of the outing to "Happy Gilmour" Dr. Curtis Smith Memorial Golf Outing, in recognition of all that he meant to the hockey program.
