Building Inclusive Leaders: Inside Gilmour’s Experience at the Leadership Summit
On Thursday, March 5, a group of our students attended the High School Student Leadership Summit hosted by The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio at John Carroll University. Accompanied by History teacher Karen Roxbury and the Chief Community Engagement & Impact Officer, our students joined peers from across the region for a full day centered on leadership, inclusion, and civic engagement.
The summit brought together student leaders and educators for breakout workshops, hands-on activities, and collaborative discussions focused on building stronger, more inclusive school communities. Throughout the day, students explored how to engage in meaningful dialogue, better understand different perspectives, and strengthen their ability to lead with empathy and confidence.
Most importantly, the experience did not end at the summit. Our students are already reflecting on how to apply what they learned at Gilmour, from strengthening peer dialogue to modeling inclusive leadership within clubs, classrooms and athletic spaces. The focus was not just on personal growth, but on collective impact.
Experiences like this directly support our mission to develop the competence to see and the courage to act. We are proud of these students for stepping forward as leaders and for continuing to shape a culture where every voice matters.
