On Wednesday, November 13, Gilmour Academy hosted a NCAA Signing ceremony in the Athletic Center to honor the five student-athletes making a pledge to continue their athletic careers beyond high school.
Aubrey Anders ’25 committed to play volleyball at Division I Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. She is undecided on her major and said she chose the school because it is a very academically challenging school and has a highly competitive volleyball program.
A three-year member of the Gilmour’s varsity volleyball team, Anders earned District and All-Ohio First Team honors this year.
She was inducted into both the Cum Laude and National Honor Societies, and is a member of the school’s Spirit Club. Additionally, she volunteers at volleyball camps.
Elaina Kline-Ruminski ’25 committed to play basketball at Division II Walsh University, in North Canton, Ohio. Kline-Ruminski described the school as a perfect fit and said it has a great community. She plans to study criminal justice.
She is a four-year member of Gilmour’s varsity girls basketball and soccer teams. After last year’s basketball season, Kline-Ruminski earned News-Herald Honorable Mention honors. Last year’s basketball team also won the district championship. Off the court and field, Kline-Ruminski is a member of the Baking for Rainbows service club at Gilmour.
Kayla Channell ’25 committed to play volleyball at Division I Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. Asked why she selected Coastal Carolina, she cited the school’s academic and athletic growth and said she was impressed with the campus, faculty, course offerings and support available. She plans to study communications.
Channell is a four-year member of the varsity volleyball team, where she has earned a host of accolades. In 2021, she was named to the All-District Third team and earned News-Herald Honorable Mention. In 2022, she was named to the All-District Third team and the News-Herald Second Team. In 2023, she earned All-District Honorable Mention, and, this year, was named to the All-District Second Team. She also set the program record for most blocks in a match in 2023.
Channell also earned academic recognition as a 2023 Academic All-District selectee. She is a member of the Baking for Rainbows and Babysitting Clubs and serves as a Eucharistic Minister for school Masses. She volunteers at volleyball camps and at Malachi House.
Mi-Na Diggs ’25, a four-year member of Gilmour’s varsity volleyball team, committed to play volleyball for Division I Villanova University, which she says she chose because of the combination of academics, coaches and the team culture. She plans to major in marketing.
During her time at Gilmour, Diggs earned the Spanish I Award her freshman year, is a member of Spirit Club and volunteers at Gilmour’s volleyball camps.
Cara Riley ’25 is a two-year member of the varsity volleyball team. She committed to play volleyball at Division II Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, where she plans to study biology. She cites its proximity to home and its volleyball program as reasons she opted to commit to Walsh. She also noted that she could envision herself going to school there.
Off the court, Riley is a member of the National Honor Society, the Reach Out Service Club and the Lancer Heritage Society, a selective student ambassador program.
Anders, Channell, Diggs and Riley are all part of the Gilmour volleyball program, which has made four consecutive appearances in the state championship volleyball match. The team finished as the OHSAA DivisionII state champion in 2021 and the Division III state champion this year. They were the Division II state runner-up in 2022 and 2023.
