    Networking Breakfast

    O'Rourke Black Box Theater, The Lorraine and Bill Dodero Center for Performing Arts
    This month’s speaker will be Dick George ’56. Dick is the father of Dr. Karen G.O. ’78, Rick ’81, Mimi, and Michelle and has 11 grandchildren, two nieces, and one great-niece.  He and his wife, Chris, celebrated their 64th anniversary in December. He is also the son of Roy George, Gilmour’s varsity boys basketball coach in 1959 and 1960.

    Dick boarded at Tudor House for his first two years at Gilmour and was on Gilmour’s first winning sports teams. He earned 15 varsity letters, set the Northeast Ohio basketball career scoring record, and was awarded the Gilmour Trophy and Hoynes Trophy. He was inducted into Gilmour’s Athletics Hall of Fame’s first class and attended the first Gilmour networking meeting. Dick went on to attend Princeton, where he majored in English and graduated cum laude in 1962. At Princeton he lettered in varsity football, basketball and track.
      
    Dick is an entrepreneur and has had several successful career pursuits. He was the CEO of Roy George Music & Vending Corp. for nearly 50 years and sold it in 1998. He was the co-founder of Ohio Music & Amusement Assoc. in 1975. He was co-founder of Phonetel Technologies, a private pay phone company that went public in 1994. He served as VP of sales for Century Small Business Solutions, which went public in 2004. And in 1998, Dick started a utility business as an Independent Certified Utility Consultant and an agent for four brokerage firms.

    Dick became certified to officiate Ohio high school football, basketball, baseball and softball games. He is a member of the 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Kirtland’s Divine Word parish, Madison Country Club, and is a co-founder of the Laker Anchor Club.  Dick’s hobbies include duplicate bridge, handicapping and wagering on sports, and he is an avid reader.

    Dick will be speaking about his utility business, his Gilmour experience and how Gilmour has impacted his life.

    A graduate of Case Western (under and post-graduate work) in polymer science and engineering has a tremendous amount of experience. She will speak about her career and how she has grown and shifted in the workforce. Some highlights of her developed skill sets are:

    VECTOR Speakers: Tom ’13,  Justin ’16 and  John ’18 Hollis

    The Hollis brothers share an entrepreneurial spirit, which they say was instilled by their father, John Hollis ’83. After graduating from college, each of the brothers has launched their own business and they will share details of their path from Gilmour to college to business owners. 

    Tom Hollis ’13 graduated from the University of Mount Union and now owns Rise Up Media, a video production company.

    Justin Hollis ’16 earned his degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and, today, runs College Tree Removal. He has two full crews working regularly, and a group of seasonal workers who are hard-working Gilmour grads 

    John Hollis ’18 graduated from the University of Cincinnati and launched HaHa Dumpsters, a dumpster rental company that provides a host of other services. Known as Johnny HaHa during his Lancer baseball career, John incorporated the nickname for his company name.

    VECTOR Speaker: Bill Kosteas,  Dean of College of Graduate Studies and Economics Professor, CSU

    Bill Kosteas, Ph.D., is the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, Professor of Economics. Dr. Kosteas earned his Ph.D. in Economics from The Ohio State University in 2004 and joined the CSU faculty that same year. An applied econometrician with fields of specialization in international trade and labor economics, he has conducted research on a variety of topics including employer-sponsored health insurance, job satisfaction, and re-employment outcomes for displaced workers. He currently serves as Executive Associate Dean in the College of Graduate Studies. Prior to joining the College of Graduate Studies in June 2020, Bill served as chair of the Economics Department and has a strong record of service to the university which includes having served as program director for the Economics MA program, chair of the University Curriculum Committee, and as CSU’s representative for the social and behavioral sciences on the transfer pathways project. Over the past three years, Dr. Kosteas has been intimately involved with various College of Graduate Studies aspects. He has played an active role in supporting the curriculum review process, updating policies, and seeing the college take a more active role in recruiting graduate students. More recently, he has represented CSU on the Chancellor’s Council on Graduate Studies and will serve as the group’s vice chair for the coming year.
