Gilmour Goes Global

From April 1-9, standout student-athletes from across the United States, including Gilmour’s own Jonathan Abrams ’17, had an opportunity to visit China and to participate in the Global Ambassadors Bowl. The group’s mission is to promote the sport of football outside of the U.S.

The American group spent the first four days of their trip in Beijing and the remainder of the trip in Shanghai. Abrams said that highlights of the trip included seeing the Great Wall of China; The Bird’s Nest,
the stadium designed for the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, which will be used again for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics; and the Water Cube, home to the 2008 Olympic swimming competitions. His favorite part of the trip was teaching Chinese children his sport at the American Football Academy.

After graduating in May, Jonathan will attend a year of prep school at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Penn. He will play football at Lafayette College in Easton, Penn. the following year.

Thanks to a friend of the Lancer football program, one senior member of the Lancer football team is selected annually to participate on Team Stars and Stripes.
Past participants have included Parker Berzin ’14 and Connor Lesko ’16. For more information, contact Gilmour Athletic Director Sean O’Toole.
