Gilmour Academy Ice Arena to Host Mid-Am Girls District Tournament

On Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19, the Mid-American Girls District Tournament will be held at the Gilmour Academy Ice Arena. Thirteen teams from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana competing in three age classifications – 14-U, 16-U and 19-U – will play a total of 13 games over the two-day tournament. There will be Tier 1 and Tier 2 divisions.

The winner of each division and age classification receives an automatic bid to the USA Hockey National Championships, which will be held in Michigan on April 8.

Gilmour’s 16-U youth hockey team and the school’s girls prep team will participate in the tournament. This is the first time Gilmour has hosted the event, which will draw close to 300 female hockey players and families to the campus.

Gilmour’s boys prep hockey coach and youth hockey director Mike Chiellino said, “The ability to host this tournament gives us an incredible opportunity to showcase our school and our facilities to many female hockey players and their families across the district.” He continued, “Additionally, this will, hopefully, give our Girls 16-U youth hockey team and girls prep hockey team a home-ice advantage for the tournament, with the hopes of moving on to the USA Hockey National Tournament."
