Winter Sports Teams Celebrating Successful Seasons

NCAA Signing Ceremony
The Athletic Department hosted a NCAA Signing Ceremony today for Nate Sudberry '17. Nate signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Division II Malone University. Congratulations, Nate!

Boys Prep Hockey
The boys prep hockey team is having a spectacular season. With a record of 31-9-5 overall, the team is 11 wins shy of tying the program's best season record. The Lancers finished MPHL play in first place in the Malloy Division and second overall. The team begins playoff action February 17-19. Michael Carr '17 led the league in save percentage with .953 and also led the league in goals against average at .90, while tying as the league leader for shutouts with four.
 
On February 3, the team will host a Skate for a Solution game to raise money and awareness for the nonprofit organization Autism Speaks as they host the defending 18U AAA defending national champion Pittsburgh Pens Elite.
 
Girls Prep Hockey
The girls prep hockey team went 7-1 in the month of January, outscoring opponents 34-11. They are currently on a 14-game win streak and have not lost in U19 play since November 11! The Lancers have 16 wins overall headed into the final stretch of the regular season.
 
Varsity Boys Hockey
The Varsity A boys hockey team recently defeated Lake Catholic High School 3-2 on Senior Night. The regular season comes to a close on February 4 as the team then looks to make a run in the postseason.

Girls Basketball
The Lancers have earned recognition in three girls basketball polls, including a No. 1 ranking in the News-Herald Top of the Crop. The team is ranked second in the cleveland.com Top 25 poll, while also ranking 10th in the Associated Press Division III state poll. Currently the team is 14-4 overall after a recent win against Buchtel High School.

Boys Basketball
The varsity boys basketball team is holding steady at No. 7 in the News-Herald Top of the Crop as it heads into the toughest part of the schedule. The team's February opponent list includes five other teams in the Top of the Crop poll. One recent highlight for the program was the win against long-time rival University School. Varsity won 69-61, and both the JV and freshman teams won handily as well.
 
Also in boys basketball news, David Linane '13 became the all-time leader in assists for John Carroll University men's basketball. The previous record was set at 454 by Gilmour alum and current Lancers varsity boys basketball coach David Pfundstein '93.   
 
Swimming & Diving
The regular season has come to an end and several Lancers are among the area leaders on the News-Herald Swimming & Diving Leader List. For the boys, Matt Vanone '20 has the ninth-best time in the 100 Butterfly. For the girls, the Lancers 200 Medley Relay team is second, while the 200 and 400 Free Relays are fourth. As for female individual leaders, Gilmour has five swimmers in the top eight in seven events. Cate O'Haimhirgin '20 leads the way with the top time in the area in the 100 Breaststroke. She is also ranked in the Ohio Top 20 on swimmeet.com (photo in slideshow). Emma Meyer '17 is fifth in the 100 Butterfly and seventh in the 200 IM, Meadow Hynd '19 is sixth in the 100 Back, Grace Valenza '20 is seventh in the 100 Free and Celeste Koerwitz '19 is eighth in the 200 Free and the 500 Free.The Lancers begin their postseason journey on February 11 with the hopes of qualifying for the state meet near the end of the month.
 
Cheerleading
The varsity basketball cheerleaders are preparing for their upcoming performance at Quicken Loans Arena on February 25. The Lancers will take the floor prior to the Cleveland Cavaliers hosting the Chicago Bulls.
