Music Students Receive High Ratings at Recent Performance
On January 21, Angeline Monitello ’19 and Leona Ng ’18 participated in the Ohio Music Education Association’s (OMEA) Solo and Ensemble music competition.
Angeline played Intermezzo, Op. 35, #11 by Gliere on the French horn, accompanied by Asya Akkus ’21. Angeline’s judge that afternoon commented on how mature her sound was for a 10th grader and recognized how she was able to musically control her instrument and the piece.
Leona performed Concerto No. 3 in Bb Major by Stamitz. Her judge commented specifically on how she enjoyed Leona’s interpretation of the ending cadenza.
Both girls received ratings of 1, which is the highest honor given at the competition! According to OMEA-Ohio.org, to receive a 1, a musician must deliver “an outstanding performance with very few technical errors and exemplifying a truly musical expression.” The site also states, “This rating should be reserved for the truly outstanding performances.”
