Students Embracing Service Opportunities at All Three Divisions

Throughout the month of September, Gilmour students, faculty and staff have been raising money and collecting towels to donate to the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants Cleveland Field Office. The office will soon be welcoming an influx of Afghani refugees to our city and the Gilmour community wanted to help out. From our littlest Lancers at the Lower School who made welcome cards and raised money to buy teapots and other kitchen items, to the Middle and Upper School students who donated 430 towels, we are all excited to extend our hospitality to our new neighbors from Afghanistan.

Last week a group of students from the student service club Reach Out partnered with Ms. Tyra Jackson, founder of The Caring, and volunteered at a Community Care event for pregnant and postpartum women and their families. Club members sorted donated baby clothes and became "personal shoppers" for families, helping them find the right styles and sizes to meet their needs. Great work, Reach Out Club!

Our first Gilmour Gives Dress-Down Day of the year was a success! A Gilmour Gives Dress-Down Day is an opportunity for students and faculty to donate to a chosen charity in exchange for a dress-down day. Our September charity of choice was Water for South Sudan, chosen and introduced by Isabella Compres '22. The Gilmour community raised $1,600 for this important cause.
