Founders' Week 2020

Founders’ Week 2020 has provided the whole GA community the opportunity to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Brothers of St. Joseph (who then became the Brothers of Holy Cross) and explore our Mission Theme: The Cross, Our Only Hope! In Advisory or religion class, students reflected on the burdens they carry and found the courage to let them go, symbolized with black stones.

During our all-school Mass (presented via livestream), Fr. John explained that our burdens are transformed into beacons of hope when we let God's grace into our life. He then revealed how our burdens had been changed into this beautiful cross mosaic, reminding us that we do not carry our hardships alone.

The service is archived at gilmour.org/live if you’d like to experience it yourself.

After turning in their black stones, students received a colored stone to place somewhere around campus as a beacon of hope and a constant reminder of how we embrace our Mission and create a more humane and just society when we find the grace to lovingly sacrifice for one another.

Students rounded out the week with a dress-down day on Friday, and a special rainbow lunch treat as a reminder to live as people of hope.

This year has presented many challenges, and Founders’ Week 2020 definitely looked different than in years past, but, as always, we continue to find inspiration, hope and guidance in our Holy Cross Mission. Ave Crux, Spes Unica!
