April Nemeth ’99
April Nemeth ’99 is the founder, CEO and creative director of home goods company Little Korboose. April is an artist, designer and entrepreneur working in a variety of mediums. She earned her BFA and MA in design from Kent State University, where she fell in love with modern design and architecture. In fact, the name of the company - Little Korboose - is a nod to modern architect Le Corbusier, one of April’s primary influencers.
April launched Little Korboose more than a decade ago, but still hand draws every design herself. The company’s pieces have been featured by retailers including West Elm, Urban Outfitters, Anthropolgie and Simon Pearce.
April and the Little Korboose team have just launched a new product in support of the stay- home initiative to help slow the spread of COVID-19. April said, “As part of the Stay Home Squad, Little Korboose partnered with other small businesses to ‘raise the vibration’ and help make staying home a bit easier.” They are selling Stay Home Kits™ and a portion of the kits’ proceeds go to Feeding America, which is providing resources for the millions of Americans turning to food banks for support during this pandemic.
Each kit includes a letterless print of a poem about home and healing, illustrated and designed by April; an organic cotton tea towel/dish towel from the Little Korboose Desert Dreams Collection designed by April; Organic Fair Trade Dark Roast Coffee from Fig Leaf Coffee Co. owned and operated by April’s brother, Tom; specialty stationery; palo santo smudge sticks sustainably sourced by April on her last trip to the Sacred Valley of Peru— used to clear the energy in your home; and a handwritten note from April. The kits are valued at $132, but Little Korboose is selling them for only $55. April said, “This effort is about raising awareness and spreading an important message, not capitalizing on a pandemic.”
