Junior to Compete Against Top Dancers in World at All-Irelands

In the world of Irish dance, as you might imagine, competing at All-Irelands is a big deal. And one of our students will be there! Abby Jones ’21, who has been dancing since she was six, will head to Killarney, Ireland on Sunday, with three of her teammates from the Egan School and one of their teachers.

Abby will compete at the highest level - the Open Championship division - and will face 200 other 16-17 year old girls from around the world. They are all vying for a bid to worlds, which will be held later this spring. Abby said the dancers from Ireland and Great Britain almost always fare well in competition as they begin dancing at a young age and even take Irish dance lessons at school.

Abby’s commitment to the sport is quite evident as she practices six days a week for hours at a time. Additionally, she has had to battle back from a foot injury that sidelined her for 12 weeks throughout the late fall. She was only cleared for competition in early January. She heads to All-Irelands healthy and excited to compete against the best dancers from around the globe. Best of luck and Sláinte, Abby!
