Gilmour Receives Official Steinway Select Designation at Lancer Nation Tour Stop in NYC

Lancer Nation recently gathered at a special outreach event at Steinway Hall in New York City. Entering off of 6th Avenue, alumni were greeted by Head of School Kathy Kenny and an array of beautiful Steinway pianos before congregating for a casual reception. Alumni had an opportunity to reconnect and meet new faces before being seated in the recital hall for the presentation. After a welcome from the Director of Institutional Advancement Ray Murphy, Kathy Kenny shared all of the incredible progress on campus, including the soon-to-be-completed Lorraine and Bill Dodero Center for Performing Arts, which will house our 10th Steinway piano on campus.

Attendees were then treated to a short video from Gilmour music instructor David Kilkenney about how he is incorporating our Steinway Spirio pianos into his curriculum and moving our students into the future of arts education. This was followed by a unique live demonstration from Steinway Spirio specialist Michael Cabe on the capabilities of these pianos, which can play back a composition exactly as it was originally played by the composer or a performer.

To close out the evening, Steinway executive Sally Coveleskie addressed the audience to welcome Gilmour Academy as one of only a handful of Steinway Select K-12 schools in the nation, and the first in Ohio. Receiving the honor on behalf of Gilmour, Kathy Kenny acknowledged the incredible generosity of the late Matthew Figgie '84 and The Figgie Foundation, for the gift of all 10 of these world-class instruments to Gilmour, providing the opportunity for students to practice and perform on Steinways and to establish our reputation as a regional leader in arts education.
