Impacting the Future of Healthcare as High Schoolers

A team of Gilmour students – Mollie Edmondson ’21, Garrett Olsen ’20, Joe Rottinghaus ’21 and Desiree Smith ’22 – served as judges in a Shark Tank-like competition at Cleveland Clinic’s Medical Innovation Summit.

The team spent the past six weeks participating in webinars, reviewing the information the Cleveland Clinic provided about the innovative healthcare startup companies participating in the competition, and, ultimately selecting one as the company they found most impactful for patients. They then wrote an essay supporting their selection - the “OneBreath” diagnostic tool, which can be utilized to detect lung cancer.

The team attended the Innovation Summit yesterday, where they learned that their essay was selected as one of the winners! Congratulations to these four hardworking students for their contributions to shaping the future of health care.
