Brittan Mawby Leiser '07

After graduating from Gilmour, Brittan Mawby Leiser ’07 fulfilled a lifelong dream by attending the University of Notre Dame, where she graduated with a business degree from the Mendoza College of Business. That degree led her to a career with Target Corporation and General Mills in Minneapolis before she returned to her hometown of Cleveland in 2016. Today, she is a financial advisor with One Seven, a registered investment advisory firm located in Beachwood, Ohio.

The finance business isn’t for everyone, but after growing up with a father in the industry, Brittan learned from a very young age the key benefits of working hard, saving money, and responsibly planning a financial future.

“I am a big believer in people and truly enjoy building and fostering relationships. I am very passionate about helping individuals understand their financial health and enjoy assisting them as they achieve their goals so that, ultimately, they can live the lives they have always imagined. Nothing is more rewarding to me than making someone live out their purpose and feel worthwhile.”

In an industry in which women represent less than 16 percent of the workforce, Leiser believes there is real value in the insight that she and other women can provide their female clients. She said, “I think that for a lot of women, they just don’t feel their male advisor can relate as well to their individual life circumstances or financial concerns. This isn’t to take away from men in the industry, but statistics do show that women are unique and, at times, do value the perspective of another female.

With this in mind, Brittan created AdvisHER, a financial blog (financialadvisher.com) designed to serve as an empowering, educational and less overwhelmingway for women to learn more about the wonderful world of personal finance.

“I have had so many women reach out to me and thank me for creating the blog because they had previously felt somewhat hesitant to discuss these topics with their spouse or with their family members,” Leiser shared.

Leiser believes that her experience at Gilmour helped shape her. She credited Socratic Seminars for teaching her to think one step ahead and for shaping her communication and leadership skills. She says that Kairos helped her better understand herself.

“Gilmour encourages the education of the mind and the heart. As someone who currently builds relationships, manages expectations, and, ultimately, helps clients strategically plan for their futures, I believe Gilmour’s emphasis on lifelong learning while also helping others is at the heart of how I approach everything I do.”

Brittan married her husband, Matt Leiser at Notre Dame in 2014. They live in Chagrin Falls with their 1-year old son, Gavin, and two dogs. When she’s not working, she enjoys running, exploring new parts of the world with her family, baking chocolate chip cookies, cheering on all Cleveland sports teams, and teaching Gavin the words to the Notre Dame fight song.
