LS Students Enjoy Two-Day Visit with Cleveland Playhouse Actors

Gilmour Lower School students in Grades K-6 enjoyed performances by Cleveland Playhouse actors who visited the school for two days. The hour-long plays they performed are part of their Classroom Matinee Touring Program, and focused on respect for each other, belief in yourself, problem solving and developing empathy.
On the first day, K – 2 students watched the play “Together,” performed in the morning in our Exhibition Hall. Later in the afternoon, one of the performers joined the Kindergarten students in their classroom for a 45-minute interactive workshop that reinforced the messages from the play, while another actor conducted a similar workshop for the first and second graders.

On the second day of the performances, students in Grades 3 – 6 enjoyed the play “Kicked,” about two students who are friends and teammates on their middle school soccer team, and who experience bullying while trying out for the team. Once again, the play was performed in the morning, and in the afternoon, each classroom participated in an interactive workshop that was led by one of the actors.

Students and teachers alike enjoyed the performances and small-group workshops, as well as getting to know the actors – Cameron and Sydney. The lessons that were embedded in the plays helped to reinforce our Lower School commitment to kindness and respect for each other at all times. We are very thankful to the LSPO for sponsoring this special event for our Lower School students! Check out the pictures from the visit!
