Saying Goodbye to a Loyal Lancer

Gilmour Academy lost a true friend – Matthew P. Figgie ’84. He died suddenly after spending a fun night on campus at the Fall Sports Cookout and Pep Rally. He was the definition of a Loyal Lancer and the Gilmour community is shocked and saddened by the news.

Mr. Figgie is known for supporting initiatives ranging from the arts to athletics. Whether it was the Steinway pianos across campus, the Tuesdays at Tudor concert series, the brand new after-school music instruction program with professional artists or the state-of-the-art Figgie Field, there is little on this campus that Matthew, the Figgie Foundation and Figgie Capital didn’t touch.

memorial service was held at the Athletic Center on August 31.
