Commencement celebration is fabulous tribute to a legendary class

The 2018 Commencement ceremony was a terrific celebration of an incredible class. The ceremony featured a keynote address from Rick Lipton ’91, a professional dialect coach who stated that his professional success is the direct result of what Gilmour saw and developed in him. We also had the opportunity to hear from valedictorian Zach Holtz ’18 and salutatorian Qiyao Liang ’18, both of whom will be studying at Duke in the fall.

The Class of 2018 - 139 members strong and the largest in school history - is remarkable in so many ways. As a class, 80 percent completed more than their required 60 service hours. Thirty-one students signed letters of commitment to continue their athletic careers at the next level. Members of the class worked with local refugees through Cleveland Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services while others coached Special Olympics basketball and track teams

And this class saw individual successes as well. We have one senior who is ranked #2 nationally in Humorous Interpretation, one ranked #7 nationally in Lincoln-Douglas debate, three national qualifiers for speech and debate, an All-American soccer player, the girls basketball program's all-time leading scorer and rebounder who was just named to the USA Women's U18 National Team, one who launched a student-funded scholarship for students in need, one who got a perfect score on the ACT and multiple winners of the prestigious Scholastic Art Competition.

Members of the Class of 2018 are headed to Barnard, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, Northwestern, The United States Military Academy at West Point, Berkeley, University of Chicago, Michigan, USC, Yale and many other fabulous schools around the country and around the world!
