Figgie Field Rededication and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Although rain forced the festivities indoors, spirits were high as we rededicated Figgie Field and held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony in the Athletic Center. Guests, who ranged from former Lancer baseball players to the mayor and police chief of Gates Mills to current baseball families and the Upper School student body, enjoyed hearing about the impact the Figgie family has had at Gilmour throughout the school’s history. The event was hosted by Gilmour mom and Fox 8 news anchor Stefani Schaefer and speakers included Head of School Kathy Kenny, Athletic Director Sean O’Toole, varsity baseball coach Jay Fowler '00, Headmaster Emeritus Br. Robert Lavelle, C.S.C., former Athletic Director and longtime varsity football coach Vern Weber, campus minister and former basketball and baseball coach Fr. John Blazek '58, C.S.C. and Matthew P. Figgie '84.

Many thanks to Matthew P. Figgie '84, Figgie Capital and The Figgie Foundation for making this field a reality! And, the skies cleared just in time to let the baseball team take the field for their first game on Figgie Field. They beat University School 10-1! See pictures from the event.
