Girls Basketball Secures Division II District Championship, Wins Regional Semifinal

The varsity girls basketball team earned a Division II District Championship this past week by defeating Perry High School 57-32. The Lancers were led by Emma Gurley '18 with 14 points, as well as Naz Hillmon '18 with 12 points and eight rebounds.
 
The team then defeated Bay High School 65-36 in the regional semifinal game on Tuesday night. The Lancers hit an impressive 15 three-pointers in the win, with Gurley hitting seven of them to total a team-high 21 points.
 
The win advances Gilmour to the Division II Elite Eight, where they will take on St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School in the regional championship on March 9 at 7 p.m. at Barberton High School. Presale tickets are on sale in the Athletic Department until 3 p.m. on Friday for $7. Cost of tickets purchased at the gate is $8. Fans, please note, there will be a $2 parking fee.

In further girls basketball news, Division II Northeast Lakes All-District honors were just announced and Gilmour earned top recognition. Hillmon was named Player of the Year and was also a First Team selection. First-year head coach John Curran was named Coach of the Year. Additional Lancer honorees included First Team pick Annika Corcoran '19, Second Team pick Sarah Bohn '18, Third Team selection Gurley and Honorable Mention honoree Athena Hocevar '21.
