Charleston Lifts Varsity Boys Basketball to 2-1 Record Over the Weekend

The varsity boys basketball team went 2-1 this past week with wins against rival University School and No. 7 state-ranked Lake Catholic. Their only loss was to a tough Villa Angela-St. Joseph. Against VASJ, CJ Charleston '19 (pictured) led the team with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists. Dechlan Kirincic '18 added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Connor O'Toole '20 totaled 15 points. Then against US, Kirincic caught fire and scorched the nets for 31 points, including his 1,000th career point. He also grabbed nine rebounds and had five assists. Charleston was solid with 21 points, four rebounds and two steals. The junior varsity and freshman teams were also victorious that night, shutting out the rival from down the road in the first of two Battle of Som dates this season.

In the final varsity game of the week, Gilmour participated in the Dunk4Diabetes Showcase at John Carroll University and gave a tremendous team performance to defeat No. 7 state-ranked Lake Catholic 59-54. Charleston was named team Most Valuable player after recording 22 points, four rebounds and four assists. Ryan Coan '19, Drexel Feeling '18 and Owen O'Toole '18 provided sparks at both ends of the floor. Currently, the Lancers retain the No. 8 spot in the News-Herald Top of the Crop, while moving into the
cleveland.com Top 25 Poll this week at No. 25.
