Enrich Records Varsity A Team's First Hat Trick of the Season

It's becoming a pattern for the Varsity A team as it had another exciting week, going 2-1 in league play. The Lancers had a 8-2 win against Padua Franciscan with two goals and two assists apiece by Matt Mangel '18 and Charlie Valenti '19. It was one of the team's biggest goal outputs of the season. Gilmour then beat St. Edward 4-1 to move into first place in the GLHL. Evan Enrich '19 (pictured) recorded the team's first hat trick of the season. He also had an assist to end the night with four points. Frankie Valenti scored his first varsity A goal of his career. Duncan Nichols-Delay '19 stopped 29 shots to earn his 13th win in net. In the final game of the week, a battered Gilmour fell to its rival down the road in the Battle of Som, 3-1. Bryce Hofstrom '20 had the lone goal on an assist from Eamonn Mulkern '19. Peyton Wetzel '18 played a marvelous game in net, but a couple bad bounces led to two US goals. He stopped 30 shots in the loss. Although the Lancers sit tied for first place in the GLHL at the moment, the final standings will come down to other games the team is not involved with so we will have to wait and see what happens this week. The GLHL Cleveland Cup playoffs begin Feb. 6 with state postseason play beginning the following week.

Varsity B went 2-1-1 on the weekend with victories against Wooster 4-0 and Padua 7-0. The lone loss was to Rocky River and the tie occurred against rival US. In the US game, Gilmour fell behind early and trailed 4-1 entering the third period. The Lancers dominated the third however, outshooting US 9-2 in the period and scoring three goals to tie the game, including the game-tying, shorthanded goal by John Kohanski '21 with seven seconds remaining in the game. Other goals were scored by Frankie Valenti '21, Tate Simpson '21 and Justin Evans '20.
