Arguably the most exciting news of the week is the performance of the Varsity A boys hockey team in the Gary West Tournament at St. Andrews College in Ontario this past weekend. After not winning a single game and only scoring a total of two goals in last year's event, the team took on the motto of 'from worst to first' and earned the tournament championship this season! The Lancers tied St. Andrews 1-1 and Kiski School 2-2 before beating Lower Canada College 1-0 to earn the second seed in their division. Gilmour went on to defeat Upper Canada College 4-2 and Everest Academy U18 4-1 for the title. It was the Lancers’ first tournament championship in three years. Forward Charlie Valenti '19 and goalie Duncan Nichols-Delay '19 were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts.

The Varsity B hockey team dropped two games on the road this past weekend 6-2 and 8-3 to Pittsburgh Hockey Academy and also lost a hard-fought game 6-4 to Canfield. The team looks to rebound when it hosts rival University School tomorrow, Friday, January 19 at 4 p.m.
