Varsity A Hockey

It was a historic weekend for the Varsity A boys hockey team as it was named champions of the Cornfield Classic Tournament at Culver Academy in Indiana. The Lancers have been attending the event for around 14 seasons and this was their first title. The win improved the team's overall record to 11-1-1. Gilmour still remains undefeated in regulation. 
 
For the tournament, the Lancers went 4-0, first defeating Buffalo Grove 5-4 in overtime. Charlie Tuggey '21 netted the game winner on an assist from Eamonn Mulkern '19. Toby Herlong '21 made 15 saves in net. The Lancers then edged host Culver 2-1 in the second game with Jac Lymn '20 totaling 16 saves. The third game of the classic was one of the team's best games so far this season as the Lancers earned a 5-0 victory against St. Ignatius Catholic School, which is ranked No. 2 among Catholic Schools in Chicago. Herlong earned the shutout win with 15 saves. In the championship, Gilmour defeated Southwest Michigan 3-1. Dominic Casamatta '19 had two goals, including the game winner. Lymn had 15 saves. For the tournament, Casamatta led the Lancers with four goals, while Kessel Richards '21 (pictured) had three. Charlie Valenti '19 and Justin Evans '20 had a team-high four assists each.
 
Weekend Plans: The Lancers will now enjoy a nice break before their next game, which is at home on Friday, December 21 in GLHL action vs. Walsh Jesuit at 4 p.m.
