Boys Basketball

The varsity boys basketball team opened the season on the road at Lake Catholic last Friday in a North Coast League (NCL) game. Earning the first starts of their high school careers, Ryan Coan '19 (pictured) and Garrett Olsen '20 paced the Lancers with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Coan also totaled six assists, while Olsen chipped in three rebounds in the team's 84-65 loss. CJ Charleston '19 added 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Kyle Culler '21 was a perfect three-for-three from the field for eight points.

The freshman team lost in a very close battle after host Lake Catholic hit a 25-foot, banked-in 3-pointer at the buzzer to go ahead 35-34. Just prior, the Lancers' Josh Bruce '22 hit a baseline runner to put Gilmour up 34-32 with eight seconds to go. The Lancers had been down 22-9 early in the third quarter before mounting their comeback. Mick Hopkins '22 was a major contributor on the defensive end, leading the team in rebounds. At the junior varsity level, the Lancers suffered another heart-breaking loss, 49-45 in overtime. Michael Snelling '21 hit four 3-pointers to lead the team in scoring. Top defensive and rebounding efforts were provided by Dan Botek '21 and Vinny Bandwen '21.

Weekend Plans: The Lancers travel to Cornerstone Christian for a double header. The junior varsity game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.
