Girls Prep Hockey

This past weekend the girls prep hockey team traveled to Troy, N.Y. to compete in the Ironbound Elite Showcase.

The team's opening game against the Ontario Hockey Academy (OHA Tardiff) resulted in a 7-1 loss for the Lancers. Ani Fitzgerald '19 scored the lone goal and also played well on defense.

The team's second game of the showcase was against Rice Academy Prep, and also doubled as Gilmour's first league game. It was a competitive game with the first period remaining scoreless. Midway through the second, captain Gretchen Klens '19 put the Lancers on the board with an assist from fellow captain Maura McKeown '19. McKeown then scored the final goal of the game with 18 seconds left, ultimately giving the Lancers a 2-0 victory. Julia Beaven '19 recorded the shutout with a fine game in net.

The Lancers took on the OHA Juniors in game three with the first two periods as a competitive scoreless battle. The third period got away from the blue and gray as they lost, 4-0. The team rebounded nicely in the next game, earning a lopsided 7-0 win against the Troy-Albany Ice Cats Fitzgerald started the scoring with an assist from Klens, giving Gilmour a 1-0 lead heading into the second. She soon doubled that halfway through the next period with another goal and then recorded a hat trick near the end of the period. She finished the game with a total of four goals. Captain Morgan Miller '19, Klens and Ruby McCall '19 also scored. Shannon Traynor '20 (pictured) had a nice assist in the final period, while Kayleigh Geary '19 got the shutout in goal.

The team's final game of the weekend was a 4-1 win against the Vermont Shamrocks. Lexi Nguyen '19 scored the first goal, which was closely followed by a goal from Jenna Salminen '19. Vermont responded with a goal to make it interesting, but the Lancers pulled away to victory with a goal from Miller off an assist from Traynor and the final goal of the game from Ellie Heller '19. The Lancers now gear up for their first NAPHA League Weekend in Canton, N.Y.
