Cross Country

The varsity cross country program wrapped up its 2018 campaign with two teams toeing the line at the OHSAA Division III State Championship at National Trail Raceway in Hebron on November 10. This marked the ninth appearance at the state meet for the boys and 14th appearance for the girls, including their ninth consecutive trip. The meet had originally been scheduled a week prior, but in a never-before turn-of-events, was delayed one week because of excessive rain.
 
In the boys race, the Lancers faced a tough field full of quality teams. With all giving superb efforts, the boys were able to secure an 11th-place finish in the field of 20 teams. The Lancers were led by seniors Tyler Clark '19 (46th), Tim Diemer '19 (55th) and Connor Gerspacher '19 (59th).  Bryson Simpson '20 (111th) and Cole Durdella '20 (145th) crossed next, while Garret Tomasek '20 (178th) and senior Carter DiVincenzo '19 (181st) rounded out the scoring for Gilmour. With heads held high as they walked off the course, the boys were very satisfied with a campaign that saw so many fantastic races. The boys complete their season with a total record of 139 wins and 19 losses.
 
The girls took to the course in the afternoon and equaled their seventh-place finish from last season. Standout Katie Engle '19 led the way in seventh place, securing her third consecutive podium appearance and All-Ohio honors. Fellow senior and four-time state qualifier Alannah Barton '19 crossed in her career-best state place of 62ndCaitrina Barton '21 finished in 82nd, while first-year team member Mary Lombardo '22 took 95thSophia Garofalo '21 (109th), Jorja Hlifka '20 (146th) and Mia Polisena '22 (151st) completed the scoring for the girls. The tears at the end were shed for the joy of such a wonderful season, which saw the girls capture multiple titles and compile a record of 129 wins and only 12 losses.
 
Seven Lancers were recognized as Academic All-Ohioans for being state qualifiers and having an accumulated GPA of 3.500 or higher.  These academic standouts include seniors Tim Diemer, Katie Engle, Alannah Barton and Carter DiVincenzo, juniors Garret Tomasek and Jorja Hlifka and sophomore Caitrina Barton.
