Boys Soccer

The varsity boys soccer team earned two shutouts within the past week, including a 3-0 win against Wickliffe and a 2-0 win against Hawken for Senior Day. Against Wickliffe, Kessel Richards '21 scored just 90 seconds into the contest on an assist by Eric Brandt '21. Then at the three-minute mark, Braden Birko '20 (pictured) scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Max Mendels '19, who then scored a goal of his own. Matt Beck '21 earned his third shutout of the season. The Lancers then went on to defeat rival Hawken for the second consecutive season. Gilmour has not beaten Hawken in back-to-back years in the regular season since the 1976 and 1977 seasons. Goals were scored by Kyle Laws '22 and Bowden Slabe '20 with both assists by Vinny Catanese '19. Beck earned his fourth shutout in goal with six saves.
 
Gilmour was voted as the No. 5 seed in the OHSAA Division II Mentor Sectional/District Tournament and received a first-round bye. They will play Perry on the road in the sectional finals on October 20 at 1 p.m. Tickets for this game will only be sold at the gate. Here is the complete tournament bracket.
 
The junior varsity boys soccer team recorded a nice win against rival Hawken, 3-2 in its final game of the season. Justin Evans '21 scored twice on assists from Will Habe '20. Michael Tippen '22 scored a goal on an assist from Charlie Frech '21
