Boys Soccer

The varsity boys soccer team evened its record to 5-5-2 last week with wins against Padua 2-0 and Cleveland Heights 2-1. Against Padua, Vinny Catanese '19 (pictured) and Bowdan Slabe '20 scored as Max Mendels '19 assisted on both goals. Mendels continues to lead the team in scoring and playmaking. Against Cleveland Heights, Catanese and Sam Sullivan '18 scored with the latter goal coming on an assist by Eric Brandt '21. Catanese was named News-Herald Player of the Week for his offensive-leading efforts on the pitch. Matt Beck '21 recorded 10 saves during the week to bring his total to 80 saves for the year with three shutout victories. Carmen DeSantis '19 and Carter DiVincenzo '19 continue to log more minutes than anyone on the team, anchoring a defense that has surrendered only 14 goals in 12 games. First-year players Kyle Laws '22, Alexander Beedles '22 and Connor Underwood '22 continue to complement the veterans as the team charges towards the playoffs.
 
The JV team lost to Padua 1-0 and tied Cleveland Heights 1-1 this past week. Braden Birko '20 scored in the win. Goalkeeper Nathan Nootbaar '22 continues to improve every game and the defense, anchored by Dylan Noall '20, Dylan Stefan '21, Nik Socrates '21 and Charlie Frech '21, has been solid.

Weekend Plans: The Lancers travel to Wickliffe Saturday for a 1 p.m. varsity game.
