Cross Country

The cross country teams traveled to Walsh Jesuit for the Pat Ritchie Invitational this past weekend.  The Lancers ran well in less than ideal conditions, as rain had turned large sections of the course into mud and puddles.

The girls ran first, finishing third of 11 teams in the combined DI and DII division. The underclassmen to focus on pack running and conquered the sloppy conditions with aplomb. The combination of Caitrina Barton '21 (10th) (pictured) and Sophia Garofalo '21 (15th) led the Lancer attack, which also included Alannah Barton '19 (20th), Mary Lombardo '22 (28th), and Jorja Hlifka '20 (36th).  The scoring was rounded out by first-year duo of Mia Polisena '22 (46th) and Madeline Martino '22 (66th). The Lancers defeated regional rivals McDonald and Maplewood, along with strong DII programs such as Salem, Perry and CVCA.

The boys took the course next to face the stern test that would be provided by DII power Salem and defending DIII state runners-up McDonald, along with seven other schools. Taking advantage of the conditions. Gilmour overpowered the competition to take home the team title. Many observers thought at first glance Salem was the team champion after grabbing the top two individual places.  However, the top four for the Lancers all finished in the top eight overall to open the door to victory.  Tim Diemer '19 (3rd), Tyler Clark '19 (6th), Connor Gerspacher '19 (7th) and Cole Durdella '20 all crossed within 34 seconds to set up the win, which was confirmed when Bryson Simpson '20 took home 19th place honors, well ahead of any fifth runners from opposing squads. Strong runs by Garret Tomasek '20 (48th) and Anthony Gillespie '20 (71st) rounded out the Lancer scoring.

Weekend Plans - Take to the road as Gilmour travels to Boardman High School for the Spartan Invitational. The boys start at 9 a.m. followed by the girls at 9:30 a.m.
