Boys Lacrosse Ready for Postseason

The varsity boys lacrosse team began last week with a 14-1 victory against Eastlake North. Every player on the squad saw the field. Midfielder Robby Belknap '21 led the way with three goals and two assists. Midfielder Ryan Mullee '18 added three goals and attackman Jack Aleva '18 chipped in with one goal and three assists. Attacker Tate Simpson '21 (pictured), who continues to be a perimeter shooting threat, recorded two goals and one assist.

The Lancers went on to host Orange midweek and controlled the action from start to finish, building a 6-2 halftime advantage on the way to a solid 12-5 victory. Simpson had a breakout game, netting four goals with one assist. Attackman Carson Polish '18 contributed three goals and two assists. Midfielder Cisco Martinez '19 saw his first action of the season and made his mark 20 seconds into the contest, scoring the first of three goals. Mullee dominated the face-off, winning 13 of 16 draws as goalie Zach Henry '18 notched six saves, backing a stout Lancer defense.

Gilmour finished the week with a rivalry game against neighbor Hawken. It was a hard-fought, emotional affair with the Hawks holding a 4-2 edge at the half. A 4-0 third quarter for Hawken allowed them to pull away for a 9-5 win. Martinez was all over the field, scooping up seven ground balls and recording two goals and one assist. Belknap added two goals and Henry was outstanding in the cage, making 13 saves in a valiant effort.

The Lancers received a No. 7 seed in the 20-team OHSAA Division II Region 6 bracket and will host Lake Catholic on May 12 as tournament play begins. Fans are reminded that no Gilmour Family Passes are accepted for any tournament game, even those played on campus. Tickets go on sale one hour prior to game time.
