Baseball Making its Mark

The varsity baseball team earned wins against Division I University School and Mayfield, and lost an extra-inning battle to St. Vincent St. Mary last week to improve to 3-2 on the season. Two great pitching performances were turned in by the Lancers, including Ben DeMell ’21, who recently made a verbal commitment to Penn State University, who went six innings with just one earned run to earn the win against US. Owen Corcoran ’18 (pictured) also went six innings, giving up just one earned run to secure the W against Mayfield. Offensively, Nick Christopher ’19 went 2-for-4 with one RBI against US and John Ramski ’18 went 2-for-2 with two RBI against Mayfield. For the season, Ramski leads the team with a batting average of .471, with Christopher at .400. RBI leaders are Jack Krebs ’20 with five and Colt Corpse ’18 and Ramski with four each. Pitching leaders include DeMell with an ERA of 0.60 and Corcoran at 0.75.

Through Saturday, the JV baseball team is 3-3 after its 10-0 shutout of Beachwood courtesy of a strong pitching effort by Luke Shepherd ’19, who went the complete five innings. The Reserve team is 2-0 and recently defeated Berkshire behind the strong bats of Riley Barrett ’20 and Jimmy McCrone ’21. Nice pitching performances were given by Cole Peterson ’21 and Frankie Valenti ’21.
