11 Seniors and a Faculty Member Inducted Into Cum Laude Society

On Tuesday, April 18, 11 seniors were inducted into the Cum Laude Society during a special ceremony. To be considered for induction as a senior, students had to be in the top fifth of their class and have an honorable overall record. The purpose of the society is to recognize academic excellence. Its motto is "Areté, Diké, and Timé — Excellence, Justice and Honor.”

Areté includes the concept of excellence in the moral sense and is not limited to the ideal of superiority and scholarship, nor does it involve the endeavor of competing primarily for academic goals. Diké includes the concept of what is suitable and appropriate, as well as just. Timé includes the concept of dignity and truth, as well as honor.

Senior inductees were selected for their hard work and significant accomplishments at the Academy in pursuit of scholarship and excellence. Acceptance of the honor of membership in this Society comes with the responsibility to make some contribution to the ongoing search for greater understanding of humans and society.

Congratulations to our Spring 2023 Cum Laude inductees - Louka Babic ’23, Chiara Bilant ’23, Leah Callitsis ’23, Alexandria Cistolo ’23, Abigail Edmondson ’23, Veronica Khula ’23, Drew Lemire ’23, Molly Moore ’23, Kayla Richer ’23, Allison Schuh ’23 and Edith Tomasek ’23.

After the induction, guests were treated to remarks from Jack Moran, Esq. ’02, the Employment Law Practice Group Leader at McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman Co LPA, who shared his insights about how to live out the Cum Laude principles of "Areté, Diké, and Timé — Excellence, Justice and Honor” in daily life. He condensed the three principles to two - humility and service to others. He addressed the inductees, stating, “If you combine your profound talents with humility and service to others, you will exude areté, diké and timé.”
