Seventh Grade Caritas Project Embodies Our Mission

In advisory this week, the Middle School community viewed presentations by the four Caritas finalists - Ralph Asher ’26, Alex Batchik ’26, Trevor Bilant ’26 and Isabella Mascha ’26. Caritas, Latin for “charity,” is an annual cross-disciplinary project between English and theology classes in which students create persuasive presentations to demonstrate how a charity of their choice aligns with and upholds the Gilmour mission and Holy Cross charisms in hopes of gaining the support of the community.

Each of the four finalists did an excellent job advocating for their chosen charity:
  • Ralph Asher - Games for Love
  • Alex Batchik - Feeding America
  • Trevor Bilant - Cleveland Food Bank
  • Isabella Mascha - St. Augustine’s Hunger Center
Their presentations were thoughtful, deliberate and authentic, and successfully raised awareness about the good work of these charities.

After Middle School students and teachers voted, the 2020 Caritas winner was Ralph Asher and his charity, Games for Love!

During his presentation, Ralph shared how Games for Love provides hope for sick kids in hospitals through gaming programs, coding camps, scholarships and intern programs. Ralph’s presentation was enthusiastic and his heartfelt concern for hospitalized kids was evident.

Ralph’s presentation appeared in Thursday's Convocation slide presentation for the entire Middle and Upper School to view! Gilmour will make a $500 donation to Games for Love in Ralph's honor, which Ralph said will help 50 sick kids! Congratulations to Ralph!
