Kara Dolling, who now goes by her married name, Kara Santana, has been our Director of Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance and our Head Athletic Trainer for the last seven years. While she will continue to serve the Gilmour community in much the same way, she has been hired as a University Hospitals employee. Her new title is University Hospitals Sports Medicine Institute Athletic Trainer.
Our Gilmour athletics program has had a long-standing relationship with UH, but that partnership was enhanced this summer when we entered into a sports medicine agreement with the hospital and they hired Kara as an athletic trainer in their Sports Medicine Institute. Kara will continue to work at Gilmour with our students, but as a UH employee. This new partnership with a world-class hospital system allows for enhanced access to care, information and resources for our students and their families. Benefits for our students include:
expedited appointments and direct access to the team physician when needed
delivery of the latest techniques for injury recovery and performance enhancement.
access to the Healthy Roster injury tracking program, including the ability for secure communication between athletic trainer, coach and parents
on-site medical care for home and away practices, events and competitions
development of emergency action plans to maintain safety of our athletes
sports-related educational offerings for athletes, coaches and parents
concussion management in collaboration with concussion-trained physicians
access to a variety of support services including nutritionists, sports psychologists and sports medicine specialists
UH and Gilmour recognize the need for high-quality athletic care and share a mutual interest in protecting and promoting the health and safety of our students. Recent discoveries and research findings relating to sports-related concussions and other injuries show that they may result in long-term health conditions or limitations and Gilmour is committed to doing all we can to meet the needs of both our student-athletes and our general student population.
