The success continued for our speech and debate team over the summer, with three of our students competing virtually at nationals. Cayla See ’21 was handpicked by the district to represent them at nationals on the World Schools Debate team. She and her teammates were the national runners-up, beating more than 160 teams! In a letter to Ms. Janis after the event, the President of the Board of Directors for the National Speech and Debate Association, Pam Wycoff, let her know that advancing to the national final round of World Schools Debate is a feat accomplished by 1/10 of one percent of all eligible students!
Clara Morgan ’22 and Faith Smolik ’22 competed in Duo Interpretation. Faith also competed in Storytelling and Clara in Prepared Prompt Speaking, where she placed 13th in the nation! Additionally, Faith and Clara qualified for the National Catholic Forensic League’s national tournament, which was supposed to be held in Chicago, but was canceled due to the pandemic.
