Earlier this week, we received more great news! It was announced that the Dolan family, owners of the Cleveland Indians, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards on January 22.
The team was purchased by Larry Dolan in 2000 and under the Dolans’ ownership, the team has earned an American League championship (2016), was named American League Central Division champions five times (2001, 2007, 2016, 2017 and 2018), made a playoff appearance in 2013 as a wild card team and played in the 2016 World Series against the Chicago Cubs.
The Dolan family has six children, two of whom attended Gilmour – Paul ’76, current owner/chairman and chief executive officer of the Indians, and Matt ’83, an attorney who currently serves as a state senator representing the 24th district. Additionally, two of Paul’s children, Lawrence (Jack) ’11 and Peter ’14 Dolan and Matt’s step-son, Maddox Hart ’21 are Lancers.
When the family purchased the team in 2000, Paul Dolan served as general counsel for the club before becoming the club’s president in 2004. In 2013, he took on his current role of owner/chairman and CEO. Matt Dolan also has a partial ownership stake in the Indians and until his election victory in 2016, served as part of the team's front office, overseeing the budget and running the team's charity program.
The family is being recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award for the role they have played in the advancement of sports in Cleveland. In addition to impacting Cleveland’s sports scene, the Dolans have been involved in a host of initiatives including the Catholic Community Foundation, Catholic Charities, the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, the Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland, the United Way of Greater Cleveland, Velosano and more.
Throughout their involvement with all these organizations, the Dolan family has loyally supported Gilmour as well, with particular focus on our outreach to students from underserved communities.
Congratulations to the entire Dolan family for this well-deserved honor and Go Indians!
