There are several requirements of our student-athletes, as well as parents, prior to participation. Below is an outline of these items. Please refer to this page throughout the academic year and especially prior to each sports season to ensure all of the necessary requirements are completed in order to compete. Failure to complete these items means you will not be able to participate in any sports-related activity including, but not limited to, practices and games. These requirements are within the guidelines of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and Gilmour Academy.
If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Gilmour Academy Department of Athletics.
At the beginning of each sports season, parents and student-athletes are required to attend a meeting to be made aware of the obligations required in order to have the privilege of participating in interscholastic athletics as a representative of Gilmour Academy and the OHSAA. Attendees will review the school’s essential eligibility standards, athletic policies and procedures, as well as the code of conduct and individual team rules and requirements. At the conclusion of the meeting, all Upper School parents and student-athletes are required to complete the eligibility checklist before the student-athletes can become eligible to compete for Gilmour Academy in a regular-season contest.
See below for a list of upcoming meeting dates and locations:
Middle School Winter Sports Meeting –Tuesday, August 23 at 4:45 p.m. in Our Lady Chapel
Upper School Fall Sports Meeting – Wednesday, August 3 at 6 p.m. in Our Lady Chapel
The Gilmour Academy Department of Athletics has developed safety guidelines for all students participating in school-sponsored athletic activities and events.
Each sport is unique in its characteristics, skills, and rules of participation. All athletes, parents, and coaches must understand the specific characteristics of each sport in order to maximize the safety of participation and completion.
Specific areas of emphasis include. Preparation for practice and events
Preparation for practice and events
Locker room and building activities
Pre- and post-practice and event activities
Hazards specific to each sport
Management of emergency situations
These issues will be discussed for each sport by the coaching staff at the initial preseason player/parent meeting and will be periodically reviewed during the season.
Additionally, injuries can and do occur during athletic activities. The severity of any injury is unknown until it occurs and is assessed by trained personnel. We understand that the possibility of sustaining an injury ranging from minor to catastrophic exists while participating in any athletic program.
