Welcome from the Admissions Directors

Gilmour Academy is nestled among 144 sprawling acres in scenic Gates Mills, Ohio. We stand proud of our long tradition of commitment to scholarship, leadership and service. Founded in 1946 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, Gilmour is forever forward-thinking, global in outlook, and cognizant of the need to work with people of all backgrounds, races, religions and perspectives while remaining reflective of Catholic tradition.  We embrace our mission from Holy Cross founder Blessed Father Basil Moreau, C.S.C.: “We shall always place education side by side with instruction; the mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart.”

The goal of our Admissions Office is to make the admissions process a positive and meaningful experience during your school exploration.  Combining a faith-based foundation with the hallmarks of a true independent school model - small class sizes, dynamic student-faculty relationships, outstanding academic opportunities and highly focused student advising - we seek to admit girls and boys who, we believe, will thrive in this independent school setting.  Gilmour offers a coeducational Montessori Program, which is one of only six in Ohio and the only one in Northeast Ohio to earn American Montessori Society accreditation.  Gilmour’s Montessori Program, will open a new class for students ages 18 months to 36 months at the start of the new school year in August 2013 called Early Beginnings. There will now be three Montessori classes at Gilmour’s Lower School. The aforementioned 18-months to 36-months class will be taught by Directress Dawn Conforti, who has Montessori certifications in both the infant to toddler and 3- to 6-years-old categories. The two existing 3-year-old to kindergarten classes are taught by Director Johan van der Wee and Directress Randi Russell, who have Montessori certifications.  The Montessori Program is located in our Lower School, which also has traditional Grades 1–6 and provides an engaging and challenging foundation for learning.  We have day and boarding programs offered for Middle School (Grades 7– 8) and Upper School (Grades 9–12), which provides a vibrant learning and spiritual environment where students thrive.

Our website is an excellent first step in familiarizing yourself with our Gilmour Community, but it is working together through our admissions process that will show you what makes Gilmour Academy such a special place for you and your family.  We hope to see you on campus soon.
